The skills to manage complex fuel supply chains

intro-base

We supply approximately 200 million litres of fuel every week in the UK. In sourcing and supplying this fuel, we use the following core skills:

Global origination and shipping

We buy gasoline, diesel and biofuel products from across the world and transport them by ship to oil terminals in the UK and Rotterdam – typically handling more than 20 different fuel and biofuel products at any one time.

The process involves complex stock management and shipping operations as we balance our international supply chain with our storage capacity and customer requirements. We receive approximately 70 shipments every month, chartering a significant proportion of these vessels ourselves in order to ensure maximum cost and efficiency savings.

A blend of financial instruments and expertise enables us to manage our exposure to oil price and currency movements.

Sustainable biofuel sourcing

We source biofuels from around the world to achieve the best combination of product quality, sustainability and carbon saving.

Where these biofuels are in plentiful supply, we have established specific businesses to source locally.

USA
We source considerable quantities of used cooking oil and tallow (animal fats) from the USA through Greenergy USA based in Georgia. These arrangements allow us to tap into one of the largest sources of food industry by-products available anywhere in the world and increase the proportion of waste-based biodiesel in our fuel.

Brazil
Greenergy Brasil based in Sao Paolo sources sugar cane bioethanol produced by Brazilian mills, who participate in our Gold Standard sustainability audit programme. The creation of Greenergy Brasil has further strengthened our commercial relationships with Brazilian mills.

Manufacturing and infrastructure

Greenergy is committed to achieving cost efficiencies and economies of scale to drive sales growth. To support this, we are expanding on our extensive infrastructure platform in the UK, with new storage and new fuel manufacturing facilities.

Currently we manufacture over 10 million litres of petrol every day from different fuel and biofuel components. We supply a similar amount of diesel, blended with biodiesel manufactured from waste based materials at our biodiesel production plant on the east coast of England. By manufacturing our own fuel and biofuel, we are able to control the cost, quality and sustainability of our supply chain.

The latest stage in our infrastructure development programme sees the installation of new fuel storage facilities in Cardiff and the development of a rail distribution network to transport fuel efficiently between terminals. This follows a number of other significant infrastructure investments over recent years.

Logistics

We provide stock management and haulage services for our customers, making hundreds of fuel deliveries to our customers by truck every day. We set ourselves the highest standards of reliability, targeting 99% of on-time deliveries and we are open about how well we have performed.

Information Technology

Our I.T. capability underlies our ability to deliver increasingly complex contracts to supply fuel to customers’ petrol stations, by giving us the ability to manage stocks, deliveries and other services on behalf of our customers - efficiently and with control.

We have invested in sophisticated I.T. systems to automate our business processes, implement efficiencies and make life easier for our customers. These extend across our business - whether we’re monitoring stock levels in our customers’ tanks, communicating in real-time with our drivers delivering fuel, or automatically generating invoices.
